Canada's Luckiest Student

11/27/2014

Each year our organization, in collaboration with CIBC, offers awards worth over $30,000 to help a Canadian student pay for school or reduce their student debt.

The award is not merit based and is open to high school and college students 16 years of age and older. In addition to $20,000 from CIBC to use for school or student debt, it contains a whole host of other awards that make a student’s life easier such as a $7,500 scholarship from Scholarships Canada and an award for four years of textbooks.

Students can register for the 2014 contest here: http://bit.ly/CIBCscholarship. Registration is open until the end of the year and the winner is announced shortly thereafter.

The purpose of these awards is to support academically qualified students who show an interest in joining the UBC community, but who would not otherwise be able to attend without significant financial assistance.

This program offers entering students one-time awards and renewable awards of up to $40,000 payable over four years.

The Entrance award is separate from the Major Entrance Scholarships. Students are eligible to apply for both awards, provided they meet the criteria.

Am I eligible?
You’re eligible if you are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident entering UBC’s Vancouver campus  or UBC’s Okanagan campus directly from high school. You and your family must complete an application to demonstrate financial need.

These individuals could include – but are not limited to – coaches, teachers, counsellors, principals, supervisors from work and volunteer positions, family doctors, and community or religious leaders.

How do I apply? Applications for the 2015/16 academic year are open. Download application form below.

The BC Government and Service Employees' Union is offering scholarships again this year to students who are related to BCGEU members and who are entering recognized programs in post-secondary institutions in 2015.

We are pleased to advise that our scholarship program will be open to both full and part-time students with a total of $45,000 being awarded.  $3,000 will be awarded to full-time students and $2,000 to part time students.

Please note we recognize students with an IEP (Individual Education Plan) may want to enter post-secondary programs but find it difficult to write the answers to the two essay questions provided in the application.  As such, we are allowing those students to submit their answers using an audio format.
