Queen's University Chancellor Award

The Queens  Major Admission Award (Chancellor's) is valued at $36,000 ($9,000 x 4 yr) scholarship.  The Chancellor's Scholarship requires nomination to be considered.  The number of nominations per school is dependent on the graduation school population. Schools with a population of graduating students over 250, may nominate 2 students.  See the link for details.  To be considered for nomination, please submit your BRAG sheet to the Career Centre. The criteria for this scholarship is: superior academic ability 90+% average, and demonstrated leadership and original thinking.  If selected for nomination, you will be asked to complete the application. Queen's Accelerated Route to Medical School (QuARMS) Candidates:

Must be nominated for a Chancellor's Scholarship
Only one Chancellor nominee may be selected as a QuARMS candidate from within each school's respective nominee guidelines
Schools that are permitted only one Chancellor's nominee (graduating class size less than 250) will have the option to nominate one additional Chancellor's nominee provided one of the two nominees is a QuARMS candidate.
The Queen’s University Accelerated Route to Medical School (QuARMS) is a unique opportunity for Chancellor’s Scholarship nominees to enter medical school after only two years of undergraduate study in the Arts, Science or Computing programs in the Faculty of Arts and Science.

Scholastic DistinctionThe Scholastic Distinction Scholarship Program recognizes the top academic students from across Canada and around the world. The Scholastic Distinction Scholarships for entrance students are among the most valuable and prestigious undergraduate scholarships awarded by the University of Alberta. Scholastic Distinction Scholarships for transfer students and continuing students are also awarded.
  • Value: up to $50,000

How to Apply for Scholarships and AwardsEligibilityCandidates must:
  • apply to an undergraduate degree program at the University of Alberta

Fraser MacPherson Music Scholarship Fund Application 2017


The Fraser MacPherson Music Scholarship Fund was initiated to foster the music education of BC’s most promising young jazz instrumentalists. Scholarships are available up to the amount of $2000.00 each and may be awarded to instrumentalists (not vocalists) aged 25 and under (as of Dec. 31, 2017) who are residents of British Columbia. Students who have received more than $500 from the Fund in a previous competition are not eligible to apply again. Members of the Board of the Fraser MacPherson Music Scholarship Fund and members of their immediate families are not permitted to apply.
Please provide the following via email with the subject heading:
FRASER MACPHERSON MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP FUND APPLICATION 2017.

Please send in all required information. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Please do not include any extra information with your application. Do not include any photos or images.

4. Mailing address. You must give your complete address, including your postal code.

7. All applicants – name of secondary school, current or previous. For post-secondary applicants the name of the post-secondary institution if you are currently enrolled.
8. A paragraph of 250 words or fewer describing what plans you have to further your jazz
studies. Include details of how you would use the scholarship money if you receive an award. Do not include any photos or images.
9. A recording of a performance prepared according to the following guidelines:
· Record 2 selections of no more than 10 minutes total in length. One of these must be “All The Things You Are” by Jerome Kern. This tune was a favourite of Fraser MacPherson. The other tune could be another jazz standard or an original composition. For each piece the recording should begin with a statement of the melody, followed by one or more choruses of an improvised solo, followed by a concluding statement of the melody. Where possible, minimize or edit out solos by other ensemble members. Remember, the recording is about your playing.
· Recordings must be uploaded to YouTube or SoundCloud and a link must be included in the body of the email. Make sure the link or links can be publicly accessed and that they work properly. Do not attach mp3, WAV or other sound files to the email.
· Recordings must feature live accompanists. Multi-tracked or overdubbed recordings will not be accepted. A simple, but high quality 2-track stereo recording of a live performance will suffice. The judges must be able to hear your playing and your sound clearly. Please check your recording for balances and sound quality. Avoid distorted sounds.
· Include the names of the tunes you are performing and the names of all the musicians
performing on the recording. The Board of Directors will review applications shortly after the submission deadline and will notify successful finalists in early December. Finalists will be asked to perform at a live audition held Thursday, December 28, 2017, in Vancouver. Finalists must be available to play this audition in person. Friends and family of the applicants and the general public are invited to attend.

Burger King Scholarship 2017The window for applying for the Burger King Scholarship opens every year in October (Next opening: October 15, 2017) and runs through December. UBC Centennial Award

The UBC Centennial Scholars Entrance Award program assists students in transition from secondary school and other post-secondary institutions to UBC. The purpose of this program is to support academically qualified students who show an interest in joining the UBC community, but who would not otherwise be able to attend without significant financial assistance. This program offers entering students one-time and renewable awards of up to $40,000 payable over four years. There are opportunities for students studying on UBC’s Vancouver campus to receive full-ride awards, ranging in value up to the full cost of a student’s program and living expenses. The Centennial Scholars Entrance Award is separate from the Major Entrance Scholarships. Students are eligible to apply for both awards, provided they meet the criteria.
Am I eligible?You’re eligible if you are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident entering UBC’s Vancouver or Okanagan campus directly from high school or transferring from another post-secondary institution to your first undergraduate degree (post-baccalaureate students are not eligible to apply). You and your family must complete an application to demonstrate financial need. The application requires a reference letter from someone who is well acquainted with you and who can comment on your character, interest in UBC, and financial situation. This could include – but is not limited to – coaches, teachers, counsellors, principals, supervisors from work and volunteer positions, family doctors, and community or religious leaders.
How do I apply?For the studentYou will be required to complete the following by the December 1 deadline:

David C Lam Scholaraship

The application deadline for the David C. Lam English Language Learner Scholarship is January 31st of each year. Please note that only successful applicants will be notified.

Description

The David C. Lam/BC TEAL ESL Scholarship was established by the TEAL Charitable Foundation to honour David C. Lam, the 25th Lieutenant-Governor of British Columbia. During his lifetime, David C. Lam was respected for his commitment to excellence and public service. The TEAL Charitable Foundation honours David C. Lam’s contributions to British Columbia through the David C. Lam/BC TEAL ESL Scholarship.

The Scholarship is valued at up to CAD $2,500. It recognizes an English language learner graduating from a BC Secondary School who has combined academic competence with school and community service, and who wishes to further his/her education at a post-secondary institution in British Columbia.
Please note that applicants for the David C. Lam Scholarship must be documented permanent residents of Canada.  International students on student visas are not eligible for this award.
CriteriaApplicants are evaluated according to the following criteria:
  1. Must be a BC Grade 12 student who wishes to attend a BC post-secondary institution.
  2. English language coursework at the secondary level (Grades 9 to 12)
  3. Consistent improvement in academic courses at the secondary level
  4. School or community service

Kin Bursaries

The Board selects a number of applicants to receive a bursary of $1,000 each, based on that year's contributions to the Hal Rogers Endowment Fund. The successful recipients and their sponsoring clubs are notified by June 30.
  • Must be a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant.
  • Must be a student in the process of graduating from high school or currently studying or registered at a post-secondary institution.
  • Must complete the current application form and submit it to the Kinsmen, Kinette or Kin Club closest to their permanent residence by February 1. Bursary winners are notified before June 30 by their sponsoring club.
  • Will be evaluated on their community and school involvement, knowledge of Kin Canada and financial need.
