Pathway to Teacher Education Scholarship

The Pathway to Teacher Education Scholarship is awarded to 20 outstanding high school graduates who have demonstrated a commitment and aptitude for a career path in K-12 teaching. Winners receive a $5000 scholarship voucher to redeem when they are registered and attending an approved K-12 teacher education program at one of BC’s nine Faculties of Education.

Scholarship Update (September 2018):We are moving from a mail-in application to a web form for the 2018/19 school year. The scholarship requirements are not changing.
For your reference, you can review last year’s application (do not complete or submit this form).
Application
  1. Complete the Application, including the written statement worth 60% overall, and the resume worth 40% overall. It must be completed online using the mandatory format, printed, signed, and submitted. Scoring guides (PDF) are available for reference. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
  2. Completed applications must be submitted to the Ministry no later than February 15, 2019.
  3. Selection of winners will be finalized after August 31, 2019
EligibilityYou must:
  • Meet basic eligibility requirements
  • Be in your graduation year with graduation to occur by August 31 of the school year in which you apply
  • Be eligible for a B.C. Certificate of Graduation (Dogwood Diploma) and fulfill graduation requirements of the Graduation Program (2018) by August 31, 2019
  • Have at least a: 
    • "B" (73% or above) in your Language Arts 11 final mark 
    • "B" average in final course marks that fulfill graduation requirements of Science 11 or 12, Math 11 and Social Studies 11 or 12, with no more than one "C+" (67% or above) final course mark, (marks lower than “C+” are not accepted)
  • Maintain a “B” average or better in Grades 11 and 12 final course marks required for graduation
  • Write and pass a Language Arts 12 provincial examination  
You cannot win both a Pathway to Teacher Education Scholarship and a BC Excellence Scholarship.
Your application package must include:
  • Resume in the mandatory format
  • Two reference letters, one from your community and one from your school
  • A written statement, maximum 500 words, which describes why you want to be a teacher
Winners must redeem their vouchers within 7 years of their high school graduation. The expiry dates are shown on the vouchers. When redeeming, winners must provide a letter from their Faculty of Education confirming their enrolment in the K-12 teacher education program.
Schools will be notified in June if there is a conditional winner from their school. Winners will be notified directly in September when eligibility is confirmed.

Launched in 2012, this $100 million program funds 50 undergraduate scholarships each year, across top Canadian universities.* Our most promising students can pursue their dreams and become the next global pioneers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. They are innovators. They are Schulich Leaders



Worth: $100,000 for engineering and $80,000 for science, technology or mathematics


In order to become a Schulich Leader and receive the scholarship, a student must first be selected by their high school


You MUST be entering into a STEM PROGRAM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) at our 20 Canadian partner universities


You must also meet two out of the 3 criteria


1) Academic Excellence

2) Leadership (community, business, entrepreneurial)
3) Financial need


If you wish to be nominated for this scholarship, you must submit a BRAG sheet to the Career Centre by Nov 28th
If you have already submitted a BRAG sheet to the Career Centre, you must still let me know you are interested in this scholarship/award

SFU Undergraduate Scholars Award

SFU recognizes high school students who demonstrate excellence in both their academic and extracurricular activities.  The Undergraduate Scholars Entrance Scholarship program offers scholarships ranging from  $10,000 up to an amount sufficient to cover tuition and supplementary mandatory fees. 

Scholarships are available to domestic and international high school school students admitted for the fall term to an undergraduate degree in any faculty. 

Minimum 90% gpa

DB Perks Associates Scholarship

OBJECTIVE
To support and assist Lifesaving Society trained lifeguards and instructors pursuing post secondary education in British Columbia or the Yukon.

AWARD VALUE
Four Scholarships of $500.00 each will be awarded each year.

ELIGIBILITY
Nominees must be holders of current Lifesaving Society awards and be actively employed by a BC & Yukon Branch affiliate as a lifeguard or Lifesaving Society Instructor, part-time or full time. Nominees must also be pursuing post-secondary education in the subsequent school term at a university, college or vocational school in BC or the Yukon.

SELECTION
The D.B. Perks Scholarship will be administered through the BC & Yukon Branch of the
Lifesaving Society. All applications will be reviewed for eligibility and six finalists will be
chosen. Finalist applications will then be rendered anonymous and sent for review to Doug Perks, owner of D.B. Perks and Associates, for determination of the four successful
candidates.

Terry Fox Humanitarian Award

Eligibility CriteriaTerry Fox Humanitarian Awards are open to students of all abilities.
To be considered for the Award, applicants must meet be:
  • In good academic standing.
  • Canadian citizens or landed immigrants.
  • Students graduating from secondary (high) school or students completing their first year of CÉGEP or students who have completed secondary (high) school
  • Involved in voluntary humanitarian activities (for which they have not been compensated).
  • Planning to or are already studying towards their first university degree or diploma at a Canadian post-secondary institution, or entering their 2nd year of CÉGEP in the upcoming academic year.
Terry Fox Award Recipients are eligible to receive the Award until they graduate with their first university degree or diploma (for a maximum of four years), provided they maintain satisfactory academic standing and a standard of humanitarian work and personal conduct which, in the opinion of the Board of Directors, justifies the award.


Value: The maximum value of the award is $28,000, dispersed over four (4) years. A stipend of $7,000 is issued directly to the institution each year in two installments of $3,500, one in September and one in January. For students who do not pay tuition fees, the award is $3,500 per year, issued directly to the institution in two installments of $1,750 each.
Recipients of the Terry Fox Humanitarian Award may not receive more than $15,000 in total scholarships annually (including the Terry Fox Humanitarian Award). If a student’s awards exceed this amount, any excess will be deducted from the student’s Terry Fox Award.
If a student’s academic expenses are covered by another source, they may choose to decline acceptance of the financial portion of the award. They will still be granted the distinction of being a Terry Fox Scholar.
