TCF Refugee Award
Application Deadline: The application deadline for the TCF Refugee Award is January 31st of each year.  Successful applicants will be notified within six weeks of the application deadline.
Description: The TCF Refugee Award is for a refugee who has shown courage and determination while adapting to a new language and culture in Canada. It is valued at $2,500.
The TCF Refugee Award recognizes a student who:
  1. Entered Canada as a refugee
  2. Completed Grade 12 or the equivalent
  3. Studied English as an additional language since arriving in Canada
  4. Wishes to study in a vocational or academic program at a post-secondary institution in British Columbia
Criteria: Applicants will be evaluated according to the following criteria:
  1. Must be a Grade 12 or equivalent graduate who wishes to attend a BC post-secondary institution
  2. Documented English language coursework at the secondary level
  3. Documented school or community volunteer service
Application Requirements: Applicants are required to submit:
  1. A description of the applicant’s life before coming to Canadaa. Two pages in length, double-spaced, approximately 500 words
  2. A personal essay (original copy signed by the applicant)a. Topic: How a post-secondary education will enable the applicant to contribute to Canadian society.
    b. Two pages in length, double-spaced, approximately 500 words
  3. Two letters of reference:a. One from a teacher regarding academic performance
    b. One from an administrator, counsellor, coach, sponsor, or coordinator regarding school or community volunteer service
  4. Documented proof of permanent residency or Canadian citizenship
  5. Transcripts documenting English language coursework or equivalent

Disbursement of Funds: Funds will be disbursed as follows:
  1. The recipient is expected to commence post-secondary education within one year of receiving the award.
  2. The recipient must submit registration receipts from a BC post-secondary institution prior to the disbursement of funds.

PDK Educational Foundation

The PDK Educational Foundation awards more than 30 scholarships each year to prospective educators, with awards ranging from $500 to $2000. These scholarships are funded through the generosity of donors. PDK uses one application for all Prospective Educator Scholarships.
Important Dates
Applications open January 2, 2018. The application deadline is April 2, 2018.
Eligibility 
PDK Prospective Educator Scholarships are available for high school seniors as well as current undergraduate students. PDK International is a family of education associations, which includes  PDK International,  Educators Rising, and Pi Lambda Theta.  To be eligible for a scholarship, you must be a member of at least one of the associations:
- PDK International, a professional association for educators that works to cultivate great educators for tomorrow while continuing to ensure high-quality education for today. Undergraduate and graduate students are invited to  join us  in this important work.
- Educators Rising,  a  free  membership organization for precollegiate young people exploring the path to great teaching and the adults directly supporting them on their journeys. If you are not a member, you can join Educators Rising for  free.
- Pi Lambda Theta, a prestigious honor society serving to recognize outstanding preservice and practicing educators.  If you’re pursuing a career in education and have an undergraduate  cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above, you’re eligible and can  apply for membership today.
Types of Awards 
Many PDK Prospective Educator Scholarships are available to any eligible applicant who intends to major in a field of education. A few scholarships are awarded based on your state/community of residence. Once your common application is completed, you will be considered for all scholarships for which you are eligible.  
A select few PDK scholarships have specific eligibility criteria. Only those who indicate that they meet special criteria will be considered for those specific awards.  The additional opportunities include scholarships for students: 
  • With demonstrated need (if you select this option, you must upload a copy of your FAFSA);
  • Studying journalism or English who will teach;
  • Who are high school seniors and the child of an active or retired United States Army parent and majoring in music or art with the objective to teach;
  • Who plan to or already attend an HBCU (Historically Black College or University). PDK will confirm at a later date;
  • Who are members of one of the following Catholic parishes: St. Patrick’s, Cairo, Illinois; St. Pius X, Chula Vista, California; St. Vincent’s, Bedford, Indiana; St. John the Apostle, Bloomington, Indiana; Holy Spirit Parish at Geist, Fishers, Indiana, OR is a student at: Bedford North Lawrence HS, Bloomington HS North, or Bloomington HS South;
  • Who have overcome adversity. This scholarship supports women of nontraditional background in the Junior or Senior year of a B.A. program who have overcome adversity (abused, divorced, young mothers, single mothers, financial difficulties) and have maintained a B+ or higher. If you select this option, you will be asked to write a short paragraph detailing why you meet the criteria.
Submission Requirements
  • Completed Online Application form.
  • Transcript(s) as evidence of your academic success. (Please save it with a file name starting with your last name, e.g., Jones_transcript.pdf.)
  • Personal Statement, no longer than 500 words, sharing a story about yourself that relates to why you want to become a teacher. Consider sharing about a personal challenge you’ve overcome, an experience with a teacher or other adult who inspires you, or other experience that supports your decision to become an educator.
  • List of activities where you have worked with others in a teaching or learning capacity, including any education-focused clubs or organizations you belong to, as well as service activities or clubs, noting any leadership roles you have held.
  • List of other significant extracurricular activities, such as employment and sports, not mentioned above, noting any leadership roles you have held.
  • Letter of recommendation written by a person familiar with your academic abilities and school activities, and who can address your interest in teaching and the qualities that will make you a successful educator, including your gift for teaching, motivation, relative maturity, integrity, independence, originality, initiative, enthusiasm, leadership potential, capacity for growth, and special talents.  (Please save it with a file name starting with your last name, e.g., Jones_letter.pdf.)

Stacey Levitt Award

About the Award:

The Stacey Levitt Memorial Award was created in memory and celebration of Stacey’s life by her family through Parachute. This annual high school student award encourages Canadian youth to embody Stacey’s qualities and ideals and Parachute’s overarching goal of a long life lived to the fullest, while maintaining an approach that is rooted in risk management and injury prevention.
The Levitt family awards each year's selected recipient $2,500 in funding to help them live their life to the fullest. The award could be put towards an educational endeavour, engagement in sports, or investment in a travel experience – all pursuits that would have resonated with Stacey. Award recipients are expected to write a reflection on the impact of the funding on their life, due within one year of the distribution of funds.

The BCSSGBA is delighted to present our Scholarships Program.
Five $1,000 scholarships will be presented to athletes that will be starting at a Canadian college or university for the following academic year.
These scholarships will be awarded to athletes with a proficiency in basketball and who demonstrate leadership qualities and skills including community involvement and proven academic performance.
The full requirements are listed on the application. A new application will be made available each year.

The British Columbia School Superintendents Association will award 6 scholarships to students planning to pursue post-secondary studies

Students wishing to be considered for a scholarship must be currently enrolled in their final year of studies at a public secondary school in British Columbia and expected to graduate in June 2018. One winner will be chosen from each of the six BCSSA provincial chapters. Each winner will be awarded a $1000 scholarship.
In selecting the recipients for this year’s awards, the scholarship committees will consider academic achievement, as indicated on each applicant’s school transcript of grades, and demonstrated exemplary service and leadership within the school and community. Letters of reference will be required affirming the applicant’s accomplishments and efforts to improve the quality of life for young people and others through volunteer work and other activities. In addition, the applicant must submit a short description (450 words maximum) of how his/her volunteer service has made a difference in the life or lives of others.

If you are a young British Columbian who has made a difference in your community, we want to hear from you! The Trevor Linden Community Spirit Scholarship rewards students who have demonstrated outstanding leadership abilities and exemplary contributions and commitment to enriching the lives of others in the community.

Who is eligible?The Trevor Linden Community Spirit Scholarship recognizes four student leaders in the province of British Columbia who are entering their first year of post secondary education, are in good academic standing and have made exceptional contributions in the following areas:
  • School and community service, leadership
  • Initiating community development
  • Affecting positive change
  • Mentoring others
  • Personal development and growth
  • Good academic performance
Taking the time to do something for others during difficult times in one’s own life requires particularly outstanding commitment. This is why, as part of the selection process, the personal circumstances and/or challenges of each applicant will be considered. Applicants who possess personal qualities such as dedication, commitment to helping others and strength of character will also be considered.

How do we decide?Each applicant is reviewed and scholarship recipients are chosen based on who most closely meets the selection criteria from various regions in British Columbia (provided there are suitable, qualified applicants).
A total of four scholarships will be awarded to high school students who have the academic skills to successfully enter and complete post secondary education on a full-time basis.
Scholarship recipients will be notified prior to the end of June.

Orange Scholars Scholarship Program

2018-19 Orange Scholars Scholarship Program

The Homer Fund seeks to truly make a positive impact in our associates’ lives. The Fund recognizes how expensive post-secondary education can be, and decided in 2006 to branch out and seek other ways to show its support of our associates. Thus, the Orange Scholars Scholarship Program was created.
Orange Scholars offers scholarships to associates' children based on financial need and academic performance, as well as community involvement and leadership. Financial need is given the highest consideration. Minimum qualifications for the Orange Scholars Scholarship Program are:
  • Applicant must be the dependent of a full- or part-time hourly associate of The Home Depot and its subsidiaries, The Home Depot Canada or The Home Depot Mexico, at the time of application.
  • Applicant must be a current high school senior, or a current college freshman, sophomore or junior planning to enroll as a full-time undergraduate student in the fall of 2019
  • Applicant must attend an accredited, non-profit two-or four-year college/university
    • For-profit colleges/universities are not eligible for this scholarship
  • Applicant's parent/legal guardian must be a Home Depot associate for at least one year as of November 1, 2017 and must be a Home Depot associate at the time the scholarship is awarded


Since 2006, more than 10,500 students have received scholarships totaling more than $24.5 million to help cover the expense of attending college.

Each year, up to 1,000 scholarships are awarded to qualifying applicants in amounts up to $2,500 each.*

BC Excellence Scholarship

BC Excellence ScholarshipsThere are 55 BC Excellence Scholarships available to recognize well-rounded B.C. graduates. Winners will have demonstrated service and leadership, both at school and in their communities, and shown aptitude and commitment to their chosen career paths. They will receive a $5000 scholarship voucher to use for post-secondary tuition.
Nomination and Application
  1. You must be nominated by your secondary school in order to apply for this scholarship. Only one student from each school may be nominated. Please inquire at your school if you would like to be considered for nomination. You must confirm your nomination by having your school principal sign and date the verification section of the application form.  

    Completed applications must be sent to the Ministry no later than February 15, 2018, to:

  2. The application package (PDF), includes a written statement worth 60% overall, and the resume worth 40% overall.  It must be completed online in the mandatory format, printed, signed, and submitted by mail.   3. Selection of winners will be finalized after August 31, 2018.
EligibilityNominees must:
  • Meet basic eligibility requirements
  • Be in their graduation year with graduation to occur by August 31 of the school year in which they are nominated
  • Be eligible for a B.C. Certificate of Graduation (Dogwood Diploma) and fulfill graduation requirements of the 2004 Graduation Program by August 31, 2018
  • Have at least a: 
    • "B" (73% or above) in their Language Arts 11 final mark 
    • "B" average in final course marks that fulfill graduation requirements of Science 11 or 12, Math 11 and Social Studies 11 or 12, with no more than one "C+" (67% or above) final course mark, (marks lower than “C+” are not accepted)
  • Maintain a “B” average or better in Grades 11 and 12 final course marks required for graduation
  • Write and pass a Language Arts 12 provincial examination 
You cannot win both a BC Excellence Scholarship and a Pathway to Teacher Education Scholarship.
Your application package (PDF) must include:
  • Resume in the mandatory format
  • Two reference letters, one from your community and one from your school
  • A written statement, maximum 500 words, which must describe:
    • What led you to your most relevant community service, volunteer activity, and/or leadership role, and
    • What you learned from this experience, and
    • How this experience will benefit you in your chosen career path.
Conditional winners and their schools will be notified by email in May. Winners will be notified directly in September when eligibility is confirmed. They must redeem their voucher within 5 years of graduation. Expiry dates are shown on the vouchers.
