UFV ENTRANCE SCHOLARSHIPS

If you are enrolling at UFV in the academic year immediately following your high school graduation, you may qualify for a UFV Entrance Scholarship award. Recipients are selected based on academic excellence, community/school involvement, volunteer experience, and leadership endeavours.

DSS Award Criteria and Description

The Bursaries are primarily awarded due to financial need. Priority is given
to children, grand children and great grandchildren of veterans.  A veteran
is defined by the Royal Canadian Legion as "Any person who is serving or has
honorably served in the Canadian Armed Forces, the Commonwealth or its
wartime allies, or as a Regular Member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police,
or as a Peace Officer in a Special Duty Area or on a Special Duty Operation,
or who has served in the Merchant Navy or Ferry Command during wartime"

New Description of Award to Delta Secondary

The Royal Canadian Legions Mission is to serve Veterans and their families,
to promote remembrance and to serve our communities and our country. These
awards go to deserving members of the graduating class who exhibit a
willingness to pursue post secondary education at college, vocational school
or university. Priority is given to children, grand children or great
grandchildren of veterans. A veteran is defined by the Royal Canadian Legion

Four awards of $1,500 given each year to children of NUPGE members

Each year, the National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE) offers four scholarships that reflect its pursuit of equal opportunity for all workers. They are open to the children, grandchildren or foster children of the National Union’s 340,000 members who are starting a post-secondary education. Some scholarships may have additional requirements, as noted below. 

The Tommy Douglas Scholarship for $1,500 is open to all students who plan to enter the first year of a Canadian public post-secondary education institution full-time in 2015 - 2016 and who are the children, grandchildren or foster children of a NUPGE member.

It will be awarded for the best 750 - 1,000 word essay on: How Tommy Douglas contributed to making Canada a more just and equitable society.

Black Press scholarship for business applicants
A $5,000 Black Press Business Scholarship is available to high school, transfer and continuing students from 37 BC communities entering the University of Victoria Gustavson School of Business in September 2015. Awards will be based on academic merit, leadership and a demonstrated desire to make a positive difference in the world. To be eligible, students must have applied to the BCom program and have submitted all scholarship documents by mail or in person to UVic.

Douglas College Entrance Awards

Entrance awards are available to students entering Douglas College in September directly from high school.  

The deadline for applications is April 1. 
 
Students can apply for the Douglas College Entrance Awards on-line between February 1, 2015 and April 1, 2015.

Each candidate for an entrance award is required to submit:

•             an official  transcript showing final marks for Grade 11 and interim marks for Grade 12,
•             Evidence of community and/or school involvement.  Students can list their activities with dates in the appropriate section of the online application or the Scholarship Volunteer Activity Form (attached) can be completed.

Pat Fletcher Scholarship Foundation Bursary

Who Can Apply?
Application for the Pat Fletcher Scholarship Foundation is open to any Canadian student under the age of 25 who is in need of financial assistance for the purpose of pursuing an education at the post secondary level.

What is the Selection Criteria?
The Foundation is looking to support candidates who demonstrate the following:

• A dedication to their studies with a track record of academic success
• A well-rounded lifestyle including non-academic interests and community involvement
• An interest and ability in golf and a respect for the traditions of the game

When Should I Apply?
Interested candidates should apply during their senior year of high school, outlining colleges and universities for which admission has been applied or accepted. Applications should be received on or before April 30th.

What are the Amounts of the Scholarships Awarded?
Bursaries of up to $3,000 per year are awarded to be put towards tuition, books, room and board. Recipients are expected to re-apply on a yearly basis outlining their academic and athletic achievements in order to receive continued support from the Foundation.

The PDK Educational Foundation awards more than 30 scholarships each year to prospective educators who have a connection to PDK by having a family member or teacher who is a PDK member, or through membership in the Future Educators Association®. Joint Diversity Scholarship - 2015 Program Agenda

The Overwaitea Food Group is proud to have partnered with UFCW Local 1518 to establish a Joint Diversity and Training Trust to support and maintain a respectful and positive working environment. Our goal is to work collaboratively to promote diversity awareness and build strong, healthy and mutually beneficial relationships within the diverse communities that we serve. Criteria for Application The Joint Diversity and Training Trust is offering 10 scholarships valued at $1,000 each to individuals who have played a significant role in diversity initiatives in their school and/or community.

The UFCW & OFG Joint Diversity Scholarship is open to residents of British Columbia who are pursuing a part-time or full-time post-secondary program in BC. Applicants can be in any stage of their post-secondary education. To be eligible, applicants must be registered to attend an accredited post-secondary education in the fall of 2015. Please note that because of other scholarship opportunities uniquely available to OFG team members and their dependants, members of this group are excluded from eligibility.

In the application process, applicants are asked to describe their career goals and objectives as well as their involvement with activities that promote diversity awareness and acceptance in their school and/or community.

Restrictions - Due to other scholarship opportunities available, applicants must not be a team member of the Overwaitea Food Group, or a dependant of a team member.
- Applicants must be starting or continuing their post-secondary studies in Fall of 2015.

Kin Canada Bursaries

Eligibility
  • Must be a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant.
  • Must be a student in the process of graduating from high school or currently studying or registered at a post-secondary institution.
  • Must complete the current application form and submit it to the Kinsmen, Kinette or Kin Club closest to their permanent residence by February 1.

  • Bursary winners are notified before June 30 by their sponsoring club.
  • Will be evaluated on their community and school involvement, knowledge of Kin Canada and financial need.
Application Process

The bursary application deadline date is February 1 of each year. If you've applied to a local club, the selection process is as follows:

Each club reviews all submitted application forms and selects one to be endorsed and forwarded to the Board of Trustees for review on or before March 1.
The Board selects a number of applicants to receive a bursary of $1,000 each, based on that year's contributions to the Hal Rogers Endowment Fund. The successful recipients and their sponsoring clubs are notified by June 30.

BCSSGBA Scholarship

TELUS is once again sponsoring the BCSSGBA Scholarships Program.  The $2,000 scholarships will be presented to five female student athletes that will be continuing their post-secondary education and basketball career at a Canadian College or University for the 2014-15 academic year.

These scholarships will be awarded to athletes with a proficiency in basketball and who demonstrate leadership qualities and skills including community involvement and proven academic performance.  

The eligibility criteria to apply for the above scholarships include:

1.    The applicant must be eligible for participation in the sport of basketball under the guidelines set out by B.C. School Sports.

2.    The applicant must be a graduating Grade 12 student.

3.    The applicant must be continuing her basketball career at the varsity level with a recognized Canadian post-secondary institution.

The applicant must submit a complete application by Friday, February 20, 2015

EFMABC Bursaries

The Educational Facility Managers Association of British Columbia is pleased to offer four $1,000.00 bursaries to graduates of the 2014/2015 school year. Our association is comprised of administrative and management personnel of school districts who are responsible for construction, maintenance and custodial services, etc.

These bursaries are offered to secondary students completing their grade 12 year who will enter a recognized post secondary educational institution in the 2015/2016 term. Bursaries will be awarded on the basis of academic achievement and/or special needs.

Preference will be given to students entering the fields of engineering, architecture, or building technology. Should there not be suitable applications received in these fields, students in other courses of study will be considered, however, all applicants MUST be dependents of school district employees in the school plant area (i.e. Maintenance or Custodial).

BCSTA Scholarships for Student Citizenship

Each year, BCSTA selects a number* of graduating BC public school students who have displayed exemplary citizenship within their school and community as recipients of the BCSTA Student Citizenship Scholarship. 

We are now accepting applications for the 2015 Scholarships for Student Citizenship.

Submissions should be emailed to: docushare@bcsta.org with the subject line, "Application <To: scholarship>". Applications are to be submitted as a single PDF document, arranged as follows using the forms included in the application form, as noted:

  4. Student Essay
  5. School Reference
  6. Community Reference
Students can create a single pdf document by using free software such as Nitro or PrimoPDF. Some photocopiers also have the ability to scan documents to pdf files.
