South Asian Family Association Scholarship

The South Asian Family Association is proud to offer three scholarships in the amount of
$1000 each in the following categories:
(1) Academic Excellence
(2) Excellence in Community Involvement
(3) Excellence in Fine Arts

Eligibility Criteria
In order to be eligible for a scholarship, a student must:
• Be a student of South Asian descent
• Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident within the meaning of the Immigration Act
• Be enrolling in his/her first year of full-time studies at a post-secondary institution in
Canada or abroad
• Be completing/have completed grade 12 in a British Columbia high school
Note: Relatives and close associates of any member of SAFA are ineligible to apply

Monsanto Fund Opportunity Scholarship

The Monsanto Fund Opportunity Scholarship Program is for Canadian high school students from family farms who have successfully enrolled at a Canadian educational institution (degree or diploma) in a first-year agriculture program.

If you have applied for entry into a college or university, but have not yet been accepted, you can still apply for a Monsanto Fund Opportunity Scholarship. However, if you are awarded a scholarship, you must provide an acceptance letter from your educational institution.

Successful applicants will each be awarded a scholarship valued at $1500, based on demonstrated academic standards and leadership in the community. Selection will be made by an independent panel.

Delta Hospital Auxillary Society

Eligibility:
-applicants must be involved in or entering the field of Health Care
-applicants must be a current Delta resident for a period not less than two years
- successful candidate must furnish proof of registration from a selected institution by September 15 or forfeit the award
- successful candidate must provide SIN number for tax purposes

The following documention is required
- proof of two years residency in Delta
- previous academic records
- two current letters of references (school, volunteer, community)
- letter of validation for volunteer hours
- personal letter detailing need for the Bursary, career area chosen, reason for pursuing this career and any services made to this community

Diabetes Hope Scholarship Program

Eligibility:
Open to young adults:
 Who are residents of British Columbia, Nova Scotia or Newfoundland, Canada
 Whose birth date is between January 1, 1996 and December 31, 1997
 Who are registered with a pediatric diabetes program/healthcare provider and is in their transition year to adult diabetes care
 Who are entering into post-secondary educational facility in the fall of 2015
 Who have received care for Type 1 Diabetes by a Pediatric Health Care team for a minimum of 1 year preceding this application
 Who have demonstrated competence in self-management by:
a) Regular diabetic health care follow ups (a minimum of three visits in the past 12 months if newly diagnosed; minimum of 6 visits in the past 24 months for all others)
b) Maintaining an average hemoglobin A1C level within 140% of the clinic specified nondiabetic range during the twelve months preceding this application
c) Obtain an endorsement letter from a member of their Paediatric Health Care team confirming their attendance and documenting successful self-management.

Entrance Awards recognize academic and non-academic achievements of students entering an eligible full-time BCIT program, including part-time and full-time Bachelor's degrees. The deadline for BCIT Entrance Awards is August 5 and January 6 each year.

Delta Heritage Scholarship

The purpose of this award is to encourage high school students residing in Delta who are in their graduating year to display an interest in local or regional heritage (as demonstrated through an original piece of work) and to continue their post-secondary studies after high school graduation.
  1. Open to all grade 12 students residing in Delta who are in their graduating year.

     To qualify, each student must submit an original work using one of the media listed below:

  1. The work must document or speak to a physical or cultural aspect of local or regional heritage related to Delta.  You may wish to begin your research by checking out www.delta.ca/heritage or www.deltamuseum.ca

Each submission must be accompanied by a statement (maximum of 250 words) briefly stating how the work fulfills criteria 3 above

BC Hockey scholarships are awarded annually to deserving recipients who are in their graduating year of high school and are presently registered members with BC Hockey, or to former members of our organization currently playing in the Western Hockey League.

 
All BC Hockey members are eligible including officials, players, coaches, and volunteers.   The eligibility criteria and application procedures are set out on the application forms. Application forms must be received by BC Hockey by April 30, 2015.

2015 Maple Leaf Youth Awards

Now in its fourteenth year, the Canadian Club's Maple Leaf Youth Awards (MLYA) are given to recognize Grade 11 and 12 students in BC who demonstrate exceptional achievements in athletics, arts, and technology, as well as show exemplary contributions to the community while maintaining academic excellence.

• The Maple Leaf Youth Awards link students with the promotion of Canadian identity and issues of national significance. This year’s essay topic is: February 15, 2015 marked the 50th anniversary of the Canadian flag. Write an informative essay about the debate and principles surrounding the choice of flag for Canada. Include in your discussion how successful our flag has been in representing Canada and carrying out the objectives of its creators.The required essay will be given considerable weight by the judges.  There are three Maple Leaf Awards: $750, $1000 and $1500The application submission deadline is April 17, 2015; and all applications must be received in the Club offices by close of business on that date.

Peltier Aviation Scholarship

Scholarship:
The inaugural Peltier Aviation Scholarship is a $1,000 scholarship that will be awarded to a Métis individual who has demonstrated leadership, service to the Métis community, and a commitment to a post-secondary education in the aviation field. This scholarship is made available through the Peltier Education Foundation which was created by Sid Peltier and his family as a way to give back to the Métis community.
Sid Peltier is Métis and was the oldest of 11 children. Born and raised in Manitoba, Sid moved to British Columbia in the late 1970’s to pursue a career as a helicopter pilot. Sid is currently the owner of White River Helicopters, which has been operating in the Terrace, BC, area since 1993, and is the oldest privately and locally owned helicopter charter service in Terrace. After over 39 years in the aviation industry, and over 14,000+ hours of helicopter flying, Sid hopes that this scholarship will help encourage a new generation of Métis to enter the field of aviation.
Eligibility Criteria:
In order to be considered for the Peltier Aviation Scholarship, an applicant must:
Be Métis,
Be able to demonstrate leadership and service to the Métis community, and
Be entering or continuing post-secondary education in any field related to aviation, including, but not limited to:
 -Aircraft mechanics,
 -Engineering,
-Flight school, etc.
How to Apply:
Applicants must include the following information to be considered for the Peltier Aviation Scholarship:
1. Their completed application form;
2. A copy (both sides) of their Métis Citizenship Card or other proof of the applicant’s Métis heritage to the satisfaction of the Peltier Education Foundation;
3. A copy of their confirmation of enrollment in a program related to the field of aviation (individuals may apply and be considered for the Peltier Aviation Scholarship prior to receiving confirmation of enrollment. Proof of enrollment, however, will be required before the scholarship will be awarded);
4. Two reference letters – one academic and one personal;
5. A covering letter describing why you are a good candidate for the scholarship; and
6. Their current official transcript of Grade 12 and/or post-secondary institution
