Monsanto Fund Opportunity Scholarship Program

Monsanto Canada is pleased to announce details of its 2018 Monsanto Fund Opportunity Scholarship Program.  This year's highlights the tie between agriculture and food by offering scholarships to students entering both agriculture and food related studies.
This year, Monsanto estimates it will provide approximately 65 scholarships to deserving high school students across the country entering their first year post secondary education in agriculture, food science or culinary arts at a Canadian college or university.  Each scholarship is valued at $1500.00 and will be awarded to students who meet the criteria set out in the application.

White Hatter Scholarship

The "White Hatter Scholarship" was established in 2018 by the Laur family and their company Personal Protection Systems Inc. This scholarship, of $1000, will be awarded to one student who has demonstrated academic achievement in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and is wanting to further their education in the field of Information Technology, Network Security, or Computer Technology. This scholarship is for students looking to enroll in their first year of a minimum 1-year undergraduate degree, diploma or certificate program, on a full-time basis, at a recognized publicly funded Canadian University, college or technical school in the fall 2018/2019 academic term.

Howard Legacy Youth Fund & AFABC Youth Bursary

The Howard Legacy Youth Fund was established with a donation from Peggy Howard in 2012, and is made available to applicants who are current or former youth in care.
AFABC Youth Bursary was established in 2014, with funding from the Adoptive Families Association of BC, and accepts applications from youth who have joined their family by legal adoption.

Guidelines
  • Application deadline is April 30, 2018. Completed applications will be accepted, by mail or electronic delivery, until midnight on April 30, 2018. No late applicants will be considered. Winners will be announced June 1, 2017.
  • All approved applications, (completed, meeting all eligibility requirements and submitted on time) will be forwarded for an initial screening process. The strongest applicants will be presented to the selection committee.
  • Bursary applicants can apply for either (or both) AFABC bursary fund, but may only be chosen for one award per year.
  • Previous AFABC bursary award recipients are permitted to re-apply in a new bursary year.
  • All AFABC program clients are permitted to apply for either AFABC bursary.
  • Current AFABC staff, board members, committee members, contractors and their respective children are not eligible to apply for either AFABC bursary.
  • Former AFABC staff, board members, committee members, contractors and their respective children are eligible to apply for either AFABC bursary, 12 months after their organizational role has concluded.

SCOUTS CANADA SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMThe Scouts Canada Scholarship Program provides financial support to members of Scouts Canada entering or continuing in full-time studies at Canadian universities or colleges.
All recipients are motivated youth whom, with the help of their Scouting experiences, have demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities and a desire to create a better world. As they progress through life, these skills will be carried with them as they become successful adults in the community. Scouts Canada sees this scholarship program as an investment in the lives of the future leaders of tomorrow.
Scouts Canada is pleased to award scholarships of up to $5,000 each. Amongst these scholarships are special awards that are presented in specific categories including:
The Calgary/Chinook Scout Foundation Scholarship
The Larry Fox Memorial Scholarship
Bob and June Wright Memorial Scholarship
The BP Guild Scholarship
Camp Opemikon Returning Staff Scholarship
Young Citizens Foundation ScholarshipThe application process is the same for all scholarships. It is up to the adjudication to award the various scholarships in the specific categories.

How to Apply For a ScholarshipEvery year scholarships are awarded, with individuals receiving up to one award each. Awards are not renewable. Applicants must not have reached their 26th birthday on January 1 of the year in which they apply.
All applicants must complete the application form and compose a statement, no more than 200 words, on the value of Scouting in your life. Applicants must also provide two letters of reference (only one from within Scouting).
Application FormCandidates will be selected based on the following criteria:
  • Demonstrated Scouting history, involvement and achievement
  • Leadership contributions to Scouting
  • Community leadership and contributions outside of Scouting
  • Scholastic achievements up to the time of application
  • Attitude and aptitude
ConditionsA scholarship will be awarded only after Scouts Canada has received adequate notice that the applicant has been accepted by the institution of study. Scholarship funds will be forwarded to the institution to be applied against tuition costs, primarily. If the applicant withdraws from the institution, the remaining monies will be returned to Scouts Canada.
Recipients are expected to continue involvement with Scouts Canada to every extent possible and must be a currently active and registered member of Scouts Canada.
Recipients must agree to have their names and photographs published in conjunction with the award, and with any promotion of the awards.
