District Administrative Scholarships

Below are some scholarships for you to consider. Please note that these are NOMINATED scholarships (except Delta Retired Teachers). Please read over the description of the scholarship and the criteria. If you would like to move forward and to be considered for nomination, please submit the required documents to me
 
SHEELAH GRASSWICK $1500.00
This scholarship has been established by Mrs. Sheelah Grasswick’s family in recognition of her life long interest in education and the community.  Mrs. Grasswick served as a Delta School District Trustee from November 1989 until her death in September 1998. 
Details of the scholarship are as follows: 
• Awarded annually in the amount of $1500
• Available to all graduating students in School District #37, Delta, who plan to enroll in a full time post secondary program leading to a degree
• Awarded to a student who has proven scholastic ability, and has shown interest and commitment to their community.
• Payment will be made directly to the post secondary institution at the beginning of the term upon proof of registration
• The scholarship can be held for 15 months following graduation from grade 12
• The scholarship will not be awarded if there are no qualified applicants in a given year
• A member of the Grasswick family will present the scholarship if they are available
Please submit to me by April 13th:

KEN SOTVEDT MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP   $500.00
This scholarship has been established by Mr. Ken Sotvedt’s family in recognition of his life long passion and interest in education, music and the community.  Mr. Sotvedt served as a Teacher, Vice-Principal and Principal with the Delta School District from 1965 until his retirement in June 2003. 
Details of the scholarship are as follows: 
• Awarded annually in the amount of $500.00
• Available to all graduating students in School District #37, Delta, who have the intent on pursuing a career in music
• Awarded to a student who possesses strong musical ability and interest
• One student should be nominated by the music teachers in each of the Secondary Schools.
• Selection of the scholarship recipient will be made by a committee comprised of the Assistant Superintendents and Principal representatives from the North and South Zones
• The scholarship can be held for 15 months following graduation from grade 12
• The scholarship will not be awarded if there are no qualified applicants in a given year

  2. Summary of your Activities and Accomplishments
 
THE MARGARET AND LES CALLAN FUND AWARD $765.00
The Margaret and Les Callan Fund will award two Scholarships this year for $765.00 each. One will be offered to a student at South Delta Secondary and the other will be to a student at Delta Secondary.
 Eligibility criteria: 
 • A Grade 12 student intending to study and take training in visual arts at a recognized post-secondary institution.
• Must have volunteered or provided service within the community of Delta.
• Evidence of some financial need.
• The recipient has up to one year to choose the institution.

  2. Summary of your Activities and Accomplishments
MCF GOOD SAMARATIN DELTA SCHOLARSHIP - $750 
We believe the scholarship should be awarded to the student who has demonstrated the most involvement and created the biggest impact in a volunteer role for an organization. We seek to reward students with the character to be of service. For being someone who makes a difference for others without expectations, a good Samaritan. They are the future leaders of this country and the world and it’s a gift to be able to have the opportunity to create this scholarship fund. 
● You must be in good academic standing and proof of continuing education in any of these fields: Science, Business, Education, Trades
 ● You have demonstrated a willingness to be of service to the community and has given back through their volunteer work
 ● You have accumulated 50 hours of community service during grades 10-12 or over 150 hours during grade 8-12 and show proof to qualify
 ● 15 Hours of community service may come from school organized volunteer work
Please submit to me by April 13th:
  1. A written statement (maximum 500 words) describing how you contributed to the community and how you have contributed to the community
  2. Summary of your Activities and Accomplishments
  3. What school and program you will be entering in
 
DELTA FOUNDATION AWARD $1000.00
Eligibility criteria:
  1. Grade 12 student wishing to pursue post secondary education in any field
  2. Must have volunteered or provided service within the community of Delta
  3. Evidence of some financial need
  4. Scholarship can be held for 15 months following graduation from grade 12
Please submit to me by April 13:
  1. Cover letter explaining why you are a good candidate for this award
  2. Summary of your Activities and Accomplishments
  3. Statement regarding your financial need
 
DELTA RETIRED TEACHERS ASSOCIATION (DELTA RTA) $1000.00x2
 
The Delta Retired Teachers Association is pleased to offer scholarships of $1000 to two qualifying graduating Grade 12 students from the seven secondary schools in Delta.

Coast Capital Standing Tall Scholarship

Awarded to youth who have overcome adversity and have not only risen up against the odds, but are demonstrating a commitment to continue their education. This award is open to students who have faced challenges such as poverty, health, family issues, personal loss and lack of support.

NEW this year, Delta School District #37 has been allocated 2 x $3,500 Standing Tall Awards.  One of these awards to be given to a student in racialized communities, including Indigenous , Black and People of Color (IBPOC - Visible Minorities)

DSS can nominate 2 students. Please let me know by  March 31st if you wish to be nominated.  Please include a paragraph indicating how you meet the criteria. Please make sure you have also completed your BRAG sheet (found in the CLC google classroom)

Storwell Bursary

Storwell is offering an annual bursary of $2,000 in support of foster children to help them attend post-secondary schools and to offer a hand up as they make their way forward in life. The award is non-renewable, but candidates are welcome to apply for it once a year.
The successful candidate is an active member of their community, has excellent grades and displays financial need.
1. Applicant must have been a foster child with either CCAS or CAS or similar official Canadian foster care program and agrees to having the above organization verify the same.
2. Will be enrolled as a full-time student at a recognized post-secondary institution in Canada as of Dec 2022.
3. Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident
4. Applicant must be 24 years of age or less at the time of application
5. Winner agrees to having his/her name, photo and post secondary institution displayed on our website.

Confratellanza Italo-Canadese Scholarship

The Confratellanza Italo-Canadese was founded in 1904 and is committed to the preservation of Italian cultural heritage and contributing to the enrichment of the multicultural community in the Greater Vancouver area (for more information about us visit our web site at www.confratellanza.com. This year we are offering several $1,000 scholarships to assist eligible students in their post-secondary studies:

The scholarships are open to this year's graduating secondary school students planning to enroll in a post-secondary educational institution for the first time in 2021. To be eligible for this scholarship candidates must 1) be of Italian origin i.e. as having at least one parent or grandparent of direct Italian descent, 2) be living in a city or municipality within the 21-member Greater Vancouver Regional District, 3) have an academic standing sufficient to qualify for entry into the post-secondary institution of their choice, and 4) submit a completed application form with supporting documentation post-marked no later than June 15, 2022.

The scholarship winner will be determined by a selection committee appointed by the directors of the Confratellanza Italo-Canadese Society. The decision of the Selection Committee will be final.

The onfratellanza will pay the $1,000 scholarship directly to the winner. This will be done upon presentation of an official receipt of registration and fee payment from the educational institution to which the winner has enrolled.

The winner will be required to provide his/her photograph and agree to allow it and a related news release to be circulated and publicized. The winner or his/her representative will be required to attend, as a guest, the Confratellanza's Christopher Columbus banquet at the Italian Cultural Centre in October 2022.

IODE BC 2022 Arts Award

This is an Award given each year, in competition, to help a student of the Arts (Visual or Performing). The Terms of Reference state the winner must show great promise in his/her chosen arts field. The applicant must be a resident of British Columbia and be in grade 10-12 inclusive.

Delta Hospital Auxiliary Student Bursary

Delta Hospital Auxiliary was begun in 1969, and is a major volunteer service provider and fund-raising organization supporting Delta Hospital.  In appreciation for the public support that we have received over the years the Auxiliary awards six student bursaries of $1,500.00 each.  Funds are awarded at the discretion of the Auxiliary Bursary Committee.
 
ELIGIBILITY.
Applicants must be involved in or entering the field of Health Care
Each applicant must be a current Delta resident (for a period not less than two years).
Successful candidate must furnish proof or registration from an approved institution to accounting@dhas.ca (and cc to bursaries@dhas.ca) by September 30.
 
DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED
  1. Proof of two years residency in Delta
  2. Photocopy of most recent academic records
  3. Two recent letters of reference (prefer - school, employment, volunteering)
  4. Proof of validation for volunteer hours
  5. Personal letter detailing
    1. financial need for the Bursary,
    2. career area chosen,
    3. reason for pursuing this career and
    4. services made to this community
Optional:
A head shot photo which we may use in our social media advertising. 
 
SUBMISSION
Please complete and submit the application form (page 2) with all documentation.
Incomplete applications will not be considered.  Applications may be delivered to the Delta Hospital reception desk, or mailed to the Office.  Emailed submissions, but no faxes,  will be accepted.  If you use email, be sure you have a confirmation of receipt.
 
CLOSING DATE
