The Royal Canadian Legion, Delta Branch #61, is pleased to offer the Bursary program again this year.

Financial need is the primary basis for choosing recipients and priority is given to children, grand children or great grandchildren of veterans. We encourage all eligible students to apply, there are four bursaries and
two of which are from the Poppy Fund, are awarded. Only two of the bursaries require the student to have a family member who was/is a veteran.

A veteran is defined by the Royal Canadian Legion as "Any person who is
serving or has honorably served in the Canadian Armed Forces, the
Commonwealth or its wartime allies, or as a Regular Member of the Royal
Canadian Mounted Police, or as a Peace Officer in a Special Duty Area or on
a Special Duty Operation, or who has served in the Merchant Navy or Ferry
Command during wartime"

The primary criteria for this bursary is financial need.

Delta Hospital Auxiliary Society

Delta Hospital Auxiliary was formed in 1969 and is a major volunteer service provider and fundraising organization supporting Delta Hospital.  In appreciation for the public support that we have received over the years the Auxiliary now awards six bursaries of $1500 each. 

Eligibility
  • Applicants must be involved in or entering the field of Health Care
  • Applications must be a current Delta resident for a period not less than two years
  • Successful candidate must furnish proof of registration from a selected institution by September 15 or forfeit the award
  • Successful candidate must provide SIN for Income Tax purposes

The following documentation is required
  • Proof of two years residency in Delta
  • Previous academic records
  • Two current letters of reference (school, employment, volunteer)
  • Letter of validation for volunteer hours (not considered to be one of the letters of reference)
  • Personal letter detailing need for the Bursary, career area chosen, reason for pursuing this career and any services made to this community
Due: May 1 annually

Coast Capital Youth Get It Awards

Awarded to youth who have faced adversity and have not only risen up against the odds, but are demonstrating a commitment to continue their education.  This award is open to students who have faced challenges like poverty, heath, family issues, personal loss and lack of support.

Please submit a BRAG sheet to the Career Centre by March 7th if you would like to be nominated.

Beedie Luminaries Scholarship Program

You may have already heard of our new scholarship program, Beedie Luminaries, which we launched last November.
 
We offer scholarships, mentorship and summer paid-internship opportunities to promising students facing financial adversity. We award $40,000 per student over 4 years for undergrad degrees, and $15,000 per student over two years for college or trade diplomas (full-time studies).
 
In our first year, we will be selecting 50 students (from the Lower Mainland only) applying to eight Lower Mainland institutions: SFU, UBC, BCIT, CapilanoU, Kwantlen, Douglas, Langara and JIBC. The program plans to expand in the future to support up to 100 students throughout British Columbia each year, applying to all BC public post-secondary institutions.
 
The deadline for applications is February 15th, 2019.
 
The basic eligibility criteria for the program. To be considered, all applicants must:
  • Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident for at least three years
  • Reside in the Lower Mainland (only 2018/19 applications). Beedie Luminaries plans to scale the program in the future to include students from across BC, applying to all public BC post-secondary institutions
  • Be in Grade 12 (2018/19 application only, future application opportunities may change)
  • Have applied (or plan to apply) to a BC post-secondary institution or trade school for a full-time program commencing in September 2019 (the above listed eight institutions)
  • Have a minimum overall grade average of 75% in their most recently completed school year
  • Have faced financial adversity
  • Use funding for a post-secondary institution, trade school or college
  • Be endorsed by their school principal, a teacher or counsellor (required) and a community organization (optional). The letters of endorsement must be included with the application.

Jonah Christensen Memorial Award

The Jonah Christensen Memorial Award was created by the Christensen family in memory and celebration of Jonah’s kindness, curiosity, mischievousness, and energetic drive to live life to the fullest. This annual award will encourage Canadian youth to embody these qualities as they look toward their future endeavours. Each year this scholarship will award the recipient $1000 in funding towards their post-secondary education.
Applicants will be required to submit a 750-word essay on the year’s topic by to celebratejonah@shaw.ca, by the submission deadline. Applications should have the subject line "Scholarship Application" and include their name, age, phone number, current high school and intended post-secondary institution.

The application period will be from September 1st, 2018 to March 31st, 2019. All applicants will receive a confirmation of submission, as well as with a decision by May 15th, 2019.

Applicants must...

    • be in their final year of high school

    • (if possible) be able to attend the Magical Evening 2019 event to receive the award.
