What are Schulich Leader Scholarships?

Schulich Leader Scholarships are Canada’s most coveted undergraduate STEM scholarships. One hundred are awarded to entrepreneurial-minded high school graduates enrolling in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math program at 20 partner universities across Canada. Half are valued at $120,000 for engineering scholarships and half are valued at $100,000* for science and math scholarships. Every high school in Canada can nominate one graduating student each year to apply for the scholarship.
You must be intending to pursue a career in one or more of the following focus areas:
  1. Technology
  2.  Engineering
  3. Entrepreneurship and business enterprise
  4. Applied scientific research
We are not considering students who:
  1. Focus on activism (environmental/political/social)
  2. Intend to become a practicing physician and/or medical researcher (e. Doctor, Dentist, Nurse, Psychologist, Pharmacist, Optometrist etc)
  3. Intend to be a professor and conduct theoretical research

Be the   Light Society Scholarship

​Be the Light Society is a registered non profit organization that supports South Asian Girls through scholarships and resources to further their post secondary education. 

The annual BTLS scholarships are supported by local communities, business and donors. 
Education is a tool that should be accessible to all.

This scholarship is open to girls of South Asian descent who are graduating from high school and planning to pursue post-secondary studies. To be eligible, applicants must meet the following criteria:

Eligibility

  • Girls of South Asian descent 
  • Academic record - Attachment 
  • Proof of documentation to a post-secondary institution
  • Community involvement - Volunteer hour attachment
  • Graduating from a high school in British Columbia - High School students
  • Demonstrates Financial Need (350-1500 words addressing financial hardship) 
  • A post-secondary registered institution such as: universities, colleges and trade programs

DB Perks Lifesaving Scholarship

Award Value:    Three Scholarships of $1000.00 each will be awarded each year.

Eligibility:   Nominees must be holders of current Lifesaving Society awards and be actively employed by a BC & Yukon Branch Affiliate as a lifeguard or Lifesaving Society Instructor, part-time or full time. Nominees must also be pursuing post-secondary education in the subsequent school term at a university, college or vocational school.

Selection: These scholarships are administered through the BC & Yukon Branch of the Lifesaving Society. All applications are reviewed for eligibility and eight finalists are chosen. Finalist applications are then rendered anonymous and sent for review by Doug Perks and his scholarship committee for determination of the four successful candidates.

Langara College - Dean's Excellence Scholarship

The Dean’s Excellence Scholarships were established to financially support domestic students coming to Langara College in pursuit of higher education.
 
Applicants can apply for the $2,500 award if they are planning to start their full-time undergraduate studies in the fall semester.
Recipients will:
 
Be a current BC high school student in Grade 12 and conditionally admitted as a domestic student to the fall semester at Langara College.
Intend to study full-time (9+ credits; 6+ for students with approved disabilities) in a regular studies undergraduate program.
Have completed Grade 11 at a BC High School, with a minimum 80% GPA.
A combination of Grade 11 and 12 marks will be considered for applicants taking Grade 11 and 12 concurrently.
Have completed BC Grade 11 English with a minimum of 70%.
Courses that fall within BC Grade 11 English are as follows: Composition 11, Creative Writing 11, Literary Studies 11, New Media 11, and Spoken Language 11.
Final marks in English First Peoples 11 or English Studies 12 may be considered if it meets the minimum 70% or higher.

UBC BEYOND TOMORROW SCHOLARS PROGRAM

Eligibility: To be considered for the Beyond Tomorrow Scholars Award:
  • You must self-identify as Black (African, African-American, African-Canadian, Afro-Caribbean)
  • You must be a strong academic student and meet all UBC admissions requirements.
  • You must demonstrate financial need.
  • You must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or protected person in Canada.
  • You must be entering directly from high school or transferring from another post-secondary institution.
  • You must apply to a direct entry undergraduate program at UBC, and not have a previous degree.
Although you can specify two undergraduate degree choices in your application to UBC, your award application will only be considered for your first-choice campus and degree.



How to apply
  1. Submit your   UBC application  by   December 1.
  2. Complete the UBC Entrance Award Application and select the Beyond Tomorrow Scholars Award by   December 1. 
What to include: A completed Beyond Tomorrow Scholars Application will include the following:
  • Student Application Form
  • Description of Circumstance (maximum 1,000 words)
    A statement outlining your personal, family, and financial situation that makes it necessary for you to apply for this award. Please explain your personal circumstances as an individual who self-identifies as Black and your involvement and contribution to your school, community, or family, and your interest in joining and contributing to the UBC community. You must also describe how receiving this award and community of support through the program will impact your personal situation and your goals at UBC.
  • Parent/Guardian Form
    This is to provide information on your family’s finances, and is required for students who have been attending high school within the past 48 months. If you are not in contact with your parent/guardian or are unable to submit a parent/guardian form, you can explain your situation in your Description of Circumstance.
  • Reference Form
    Your personal reference must be well acquainted with you, and able to comment on your character, interest in UBC, and financial circumstances. Your reference could be – but is not limited to – a coach, a teacher, your counsellor, your principal, your supervisor from a work or volunteer position, your family doctor, or a community or religious leader.
Deadline to apply: Completed Entrance Award applications, including the Student Application Form, Description of Circumstance, Parent/Guardian Form (if applicable), and Reference Form, must be received by December 1. A completed UBC Admission Application must be received by   December 1.
UBC will contact the majority of Beyond Tomorrow Scholars Award recipients by May 15. Only successful award applicants will be contacted.

The Centennial Scholars Entrance Award is separate from the Presidential Scholars Award. You are eligible to apply for both awards, provided you meet the criteria.
