SFU UGGLA Family Scholarship

​This scholarship was created in perpetuity to:
Reduce financial and other barriers students face when accessing post-secondary education
Foster academic achievement
Ensure successful transition to university learning and life
Build confidence and develop life skills
Position students for career and leadership success
Build a life-long international community in partnership with the Uggla Family Scholars program at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and graduates of the Shitima School in Kabwe, Zambia
Foster networks for life through a dynamic alumni cohort
Eligibility
Ten scholarships are awarded each year to students who face significant financial barriers to participation in post-secondary education. This may include students who identify as Indigenous, Black, or a person of colour, students living with disabilities, LGBTQIA2S+ students, and students of all gender identities. The intent of the Uggla Family Scholarship is to promote equity and remove historical and existing discrimination, including barriers to full participation in social, cultural, economic and political life.
Other eligibility criteria include:
Available to domestic (Canadian) students admitted for the fall term to any undergraduate degree.
Deadline: January 20, 2025

UBC – CENTENNIAL SCHOLARS AWARD
To be considered for the Centennial Scholars Entrance Award :
You must be a strong academic student and meet all UBC admissions requirements.
You must demonstrate financial need.
You must be a Canadian citizen,  permanent resident, or protected person in Canada.
You must be entering directly from high school or transferring from another post-secondary institution.
You must apply to a direct entry undergraduate program at UBC, and not have a previous degree.

The vision for the BUILD scholarship program is to create a pathway for aspiring students to begin their journey toward a rewarding career in the skilled trades to address the critical skills gap in B.C.’s growing economy.


  • Up to $20,000 per student towards the completion of the Red Seal Certification
    Year 1: Foundation/Pre-Apprenticeship Program - $10,000
    Level 2: $1000 tuition / $1000 stipend
    Level 3: $1000 tuition / $1000 stipend
    Level 4: $1000 tuition / $1000 stipend
    Red Seal Certification Completion Award: $4000

To be considered for the 2025 Cohort you must meet the basic eligibility requirements. Please see the Program Guidelines for more details.
Residency: Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or a refugee, and reside in British Columbia.

Be born after January 1, 1990.

Institution: Preference may be given to applicants who have completed or are enrolled in BCIT's Trades Discovery program or an equivalent Trades preparatory program.

Financial Adversity: Demonstrate your and/or your family's financial adversity, and how it has affected you.

Requirements: Satisfy BCIT's entrance requirements.

Intent: Intend to pursue BCIT's nationally designed certification programs (under the Interprovincial Standards Red Seal Program) for one of the following trades: carpentry, electrical (construction), plumbing, welding, sheet metal.

To be considered for the 2025 program you must meet the basic eligibility requirements:

Residency: Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident and reside in British Columbia.

Aptitude: Currently be in Grade 12 and have a minimum grade average of 75% in the most recently completed school year.

Intent: Plan to be a full-time student and use the funding for post-secondary education.

Institution: Apply to one of the twenty-five BC post-secondary institutions or trade schools.

Financial Adversity: Demonstrate your and/or your family's financial adversity, and how it has affected you.

Engagement: Receive a letter of reference from your secondary school.

Applicant InformationEligibility CriteriaTerry Fox Humanitarian Awards are open to students of all abilities.
To be considered for the Award, applicants must be:
  • In good academic standing.
  • Canadian citizens or landed immigrants.
  • Students graduating from secondary (high) school or students completing their first year of CÉGEP or students who have completed secondary (high) school
  • Involved in voluntary humanitarian activities (for which they have not been compensated).
  • Planning to or are already studying towards their first university degree or diploma at a Canadian post-secondary institution, or entering their 2nd year of CÉGEP in the upcoming academic year.
Terry Fox Award Recipients are eligible to receive the Award until they graduate with their first university degree or diploma (for a maximum of four years), provided they maintain satisfactory academic standing and a standard of humanitarian work and personal conduct which, in the opinion of the Board of Directors, justifies the award.

Value: The maximum value of the award is $28,000, dispersed over four (4) years. A stipend of $7,000 is issued directly to the institution each year in two installments of $3,500, one in September and one in January.

Queen’s University – Chancelor Scholarship

In celebration of its 150th anniversary (1841-1991), Queen's University offers 50 Chancellor's Scholarships to students chosen on the basis of nomination by their high and submission of a detailed application form. Students must be entering the first year of any undergraduate program at Queen's to qualify for a Chancellor's Scholarship.
Criteria:
  • Superior academic ability
  • Creative and original thinking
  • Proven leadership qualities
  • Not eligible for international students
  • 90% gpa
High school nomination required.

Kin Bursaries

KIN BURSARIES
Eligibility
•             Must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
•             Must be a full-time student in the process of graduating from high school or currently studying or registered at a post-secondary institution.
•             Must complete the current application form by February 1. Bursary winners are notified before June 30 by their sponsoring club.
•             Must not have previouly been awarded a Kin Canada Bursary.
•             Will be evaluated on their community and school involvement, knowledge of Kin Canada and financial need.
•             Application Process: The bursary application deadline date is February 1 of each year. The selection process is as follows:       
Each club reviews all submitted application forms and selects one to be endorsed and forwarded to the Board of Trustees for review on or before March 1.
The Board selects a number of applicants to receive a bursary of $1,000 each, based on that year's contributions to the Hal Rogers Endowment Fund. The successful recipients and their sponsoring clubs are notified by June 30.
